Our client wishes to run all software on Linux machines like those provided
by the College of Computer Science. As you may know from when you signed up
for CCIS accounts, you may log into the Linux machine called
login-students@ccs.neu.edu |
which runs the standard operating system. (The machine has additional names, due
to various changes in the College structure— such as login.khoury.northeastern.edu— but that is the name by which it has been known
for two decades.)
This machine might get overloaded during the semester so you should avoid it. For a list of Virtual Machines, see below. You can log into those via SSH.
For general knowledge about the CCIS Systems world, see their knowledge base page. If you are unfamiliar with Linux, you may wish to peruse the following parts of the page:
the topics below the Unix/Linux tab (bottom of the page),
the virtual machine (VM) tab, and
the networking tab for how to log into VMs.
Systems just now (Friday 8 September, evening) informed us of the availability of new Linux machines: linux-075.khoury.northeastern.edu, ..., linux-086.khoury.northeastern.edu, ... for all numbers between 75 and 86 (inclusive).
